# Publishing

A published library is served at `https://your-team.docsahoy.eu/library-slug`, or on [your own domain](https://docsahoy.docsahoy.eu/docs/publishing/custom-domains). Publish and take offline from the **Library** menu (see [Publish it](https://docsahoy.docsahoy.eu/docs/getting-started/publish)).

## What readers get

- Pages rendered on our server and served from a cache: fast on a phone, readable without JavaScript.
- A sidebar with the library's tree, breadcrumbs, an "On this page" list, and a language menu when the library has several languages.
- [Search](https://docsahoy.docsahoy.eu/docs/searching) across the library.
- A light and a dark theme, following the reader's device, and a high-contrast variant for readers whose device asks for more contrast.
- No cookies, no tracking scripts, no cookie banner. See [Analytics](https://docsahoy.docsahoy.eu/docs/analytics).

## What search engines and AI assistants get

- One address per page; old addresses answer with a permanent redirect.
- A title, description and "last updated" date on every page, and structured data search engines read.
- A `sitemap.xml` and a `robots.txt` per site.
- Every page as Markdown (the page's address with `.md` added) and an `llms.txt` per library. See [AI assistants, API and MCP](https://docsahoy.docsahoy.eu/docs/ai-and-api).

A page's description comes from its page settings, or else from its first paragraph.

## Visibility settings

In the library's **Settings**, under **Visibility**, owners and admins choose:

- **Discoverable by search engines.** When off, `robots.txt` asks search engines to stay away, every page says "noindex" and the library is left out of the sitemap. Readers with the address can still read it.
- **Open to AI assistants.** When off, `robots.txt` asks AI crawlers to stay away, and the Markdown versions and `llms.txt` are switched off.
- **Show "Published with Docs Ahoy"** at the bottom of each page: a link to our website. Depending on your plan, you can switch it off.

## Your team's address

Your team address is the first part of the address: `your-team.docsahoy.eu`. Published documentation lives on `docsahoy.eu`, a domain that holds only customers' content and is on the Public Suffix List. Browsers and safety services treat every team's site as a separate site, so one team's problems never reach another's.
